The story behind the poster
The Lange Voorhout brings together a quiet walk and The Hague’s artistic history. Pulchri Studio opened its galleries at number 15 in 1901, following the Mesdag brothers’ purchase of the building.
The artists’ society was founded in 1847. Under chairman Hendrik Willem Mesdag it continued to grow: in 1898 he acquired the Voorhout building for the society, and exhibition galleries were added. The avenue’s mixture of grand houses, art and meeting places gives it a distinctive history. The poster’s walk draws on that character, with trees and façades forming a quiet setting.
The design research considered the façades, tree-lined avenue and palace as local landmarks. The poster brings them together in a warm autumn impression. Foliage colours, walkers and foreground details were composed for the illustration. The architecture anchors the scene while its atmosphere invites an unhurried stroll.
